I have had pets throughout my life, as a child I drove my parents mad with ' I want...can I have... a dog, a cat, a
budgie...' I would arrange with people to pick up a kitten without telling my parents, and told some one I would have one
of their puppies, only to have them turn up on my parents doorstep with the said puppy!
As I got older I married and had a family. During these years
I have always had dogs and currently have 5. I have done a variety of things with my dogs over the years, from obedience
to working trials to showing. I have had some success in all fields, but my greatest claim to fame with them was having the
first ever Best Bitch winner of Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers at Crufts 2002.
I have bred a couple of litters of puppies and kept one from
the last litter. She has become a challenge for me, we have this disagreement on who is the boss! I tried various methods
to cure her problems, and I had read Jan Fennell's book, The Dog Listener. I then found her web site and logged on -
and it gave a list of people that had completed her courses to become Dog Listeners. I contacted one of them and she came
to see me and my dogs. I was instantly impressed with what she told me and saw for myself that it worked. I wanted to know
more and I decided to do the courses myself. I have completed both the Foundation and Advanced courses and hold the relevant
certificates to practice the teaching method. I was lucky enough to be trained by Jan Fennell herself, along with her son,
Tony Knight and fellow DL, Gill Tuxworth. I am still working with my own dogs to improve the way we live and I would
like to be able to help others who are having problems with their dogs.
